Great news! The National Lottery Community Fund have just awarded Jigsaw £87,551 towards the development of a new horticultural nursery.
Jigsaw’s gardening programmes, run by our Horticulture Manager Sally Talbot, have proved incredibly beneficial to both our pupils and adult learners over the last 3 years and naturally Jigsaw Trust came to the decision that we would need to develop a much larger garden to meet the growing needs of our learners.
The GARDENworks Nursery will cover approx. 675 sq.m. and will be significantly larger than the existing gardening areas currently in use across the Jigsaw site.
The new Nursery will include raised beds, poly tunnels, an outdoor recreation area and separate area for quite reflection. All our learners will have the opportunity to grow plants, flowers, fruit and vegetables in the garden, some of which will supply Jigsaw’s Cafe enterprise. Learners will also have the opportunity to sell produce at local farmers markets encouraging their engagement with the wider community.
Work starts on the new GARDENworks Nursery in early April and we are looking to have the project completed by August 2019.
Jigsaw’s Head of Fundraising Robin Legge said “We are incredibly grateful to the National Lottery Community Fun and everyone who’s supported this project. Securing funding for the new GARDENworks Nursery has been one of our biggest priorities and it’s wonderful to see that the National Lottery Community Fund have recognised the impact that this project will have on all our learners.”
