Pupils and staff had a brilliant Charity Day combining castles and cricket to raise money for the Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation. We were delighted to welcome the Foundation’s Director of Cricket and Coaching, John Barclay, who led a special assembly and helped pupils learn more about the game.
Jigsaw pupils have enjoyed several visits to the Foundation, which runs coaching sessions in schools and hosts visits to both the cricket club and nearby Arundel Castle for children with special needs.
The Jigsaw School Council chose the Foundation as the school’s Charity of the Year after several members had a great day playing at the club and being taken on a tour of the castle last month. Council members also thought other pupils would enjoy the twin themes of cricket and castles – and so it turned out.
Fundraising activities on the Charity Day included baking castle-shaped cookies, indoor cricket games and art activities involving making and painting models of castles. We raised more than £140 to support the foundation’s work.
Big thanks go to John Barclay – former President of the prestigious MCC – for joining us and spending so much time inspiring pupils about cricket. Click here for more information about the Foundation and its work.
